Saying Bye to Dairy for Good Transformed My Skin for Good
While I am an animal-loving, earth-hugging vegan, when I'm asked why I 1st decided to go plant-based—the reason had nothing to do with compassion toward animals or the environment. It was my SKIN. In my mid 20s I had very troublesome skin, adult acne that would not go away no matter what I tried topically on my skin. One day it clicked, that maybe it was what I was putting INTO my body and not ONTO my face that would make a difference.
After some research and learning that acne along the jawline & chin is likely to be hormone-related, I realized that dairy (for some) can cause hormonal imbalances and thus, influence one’s acne. This is because the milk produced by cows is laden with hormones (that are intended for their calves, not for us). I know it can be difficult to cut out dairy because "CHEESE"—which is literally addicting because of the protein casein found in it that binds to receptors in our brains. So I get it—I too, was once addicted to cheese. For me, the transition was SO worth it. Aside from the vain benefit of clear skin, I saw other benefits too, like increased energy and reduced inflammation & bloating in my body.
This also doesn’t mean that there aren’t vegans who don’t have acne—as acne is also impacted by other factors specific to an individual. While studies don’t explicitly say that dairy causes acne, I truly believe there is a connection. I encourage you to do your research on the dairy industry and how reducing or eliminating dairy can help take your health to the next level.
